ASUS reveals their new VG258Q 24.5-inch 144Hz FreeSync monitor

ASUS has officially unveiled their new VG258Q 24.5-inch gaming monitor, an entry-level gaming display which supports VESA Adaptive-Sync and framerates of up to 144Hz.

This display offers a resolution of 1080p with a highly responsive TN panel, which can deliver an Adaptive-Sync (FreeSync) Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) range of 40-144Hz. The VG258Q has a high enough VRR range to support AMD LFC (Low Framerate Compensation), which allows compatible GPUs to utilise frame doubling to support variable refresh rates on framerates below the panel’s lower limit. This extended VRR range makes FreeSync possible from 30Hz-144Hz, lower refresh rates are possible but are to low to be considered optimal for gaming.

The MG248QE does not sit in ASUS’ premium Strix or ROG monitor brands, though it does offer plenty of features, like VESA support, Low Motion Blur technology, ASUS GamePlus technology and support for ASUS’ DisplayWidget Software, allowing display options to be edited outside of the panel’s OSD.

On this monitor Display Inputs include HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort 1.2a and DVI-D, though please note that systems that are connected using DVI-D will not support VESA Adaptive Sync/FreeSync.

At this time ASUS has not revealed the official pricing of this display, though the VG258Q is expected to be a budget-oriented monitor offering.
