DirectX 12 option appears on Rise of the Tomb Raider
Â
DirectX 12 options have been discovered in Rise of the Tomb Raider’s game files, revealing that the game may be patched to support the new API at a later date or at least was originally intended to make use of the new API.Â
These options were found inside the game files of the Steam version of the game, though none of these files appear to be fully functional at this time. Â
Being a former Xbox One exclusive title the game may already be using the DirectX 12 API on the Xbox One, using DirectX 11 for more mature driver support and the ability to run the game on older hardware and operating systems.Â
DirectX 12 would enable several new options for the game which could give the game more performance on the PC platform, like making use of asynchronous shaders and making use of the CPU efficiency provided by the new API.Â
Â
Â
DirectX 12 games are expected to launch soon, with several developers planning DirectX 12 themed sessions at GDC 2016 for games like Hitman, Just Cause 3 and F1 2015.
