EK confirms water block compatibility with Nvidia’s RTX 2070 Super
We have noted before that Nvidia’s RTX 2070 Super is more of a cut-down RTX 2080 than an upgraded RTX 2070, thanks to Nvidia’s use of the same TU-104 core as the RTX 2080 and what appears to be the same basic cooler/PCB design. In effect, the RTX 2070 Super is more of an RTX Sub-2080, but I don’t think that name would get past Nvidia’s marketing department.Â
So what does this mean for water block support? Well, for starters it means that no RTX 2070 water blocks will support the RTX 2070 Super, thanks to Nvidia’s use of an RTX 2080, or RTX 2080-like PCB and cooler design, but thankfully EK has made it clear where their RTX 2070 Super water block support stands.Â
With the RTX 2070 Super, EK has listed the graphics card’s PCB ad an “Nvidia Reference PCB Design” that has been “checked by EK”, with their water cooling configurator stating that the company’s existing RTX 2080 Founders Edition water block (pictured below) will support the company’s RTX 2070 Super.Â
At this time EK has no plans to support Nvidia’s original RTX 2060 and RTX 2070 graphics cards with custom water blocks, which means that the RTX 2060 Super will also lack EK water block support. This lack of water block support mostly stems from Nvidia’s strange PCB design for these graphics cards. Â
So what does this mean? It means that water blocks which support Nvidia’s Reference/Founders Edition RTX 2080 PCB will also support the RTX 2070 Super, which is great news for both EK and their customers, as it means that compatible water blocks will be available for the graphics card from day 1.Â
