Elder Scrolls Online will get a DirectX 12 upgrade in the future
Â
The developers of Elder Scrolls Online have announced that the game will be getting a DirectX 12 upgrade in the future on PC, though the developer did not state and ETA for the upgrade.Â
The developers expect that DirectX 12 will bring a number of graphical performance improvements to the game, which would be very useful to those who would love to turn the games settings higher or have a more stable framerate.
Â
Â
Yes, we are planning on a DX12 upgrade and expect that this will give us a number of graphics performance improvements. We cannot provide an ETA at this time, but it is something weâre working towards.
Â
The developers of the game has also stated that they are looking into using the PS4’s 7th CPU core, a CPU core that has recently been made available for developers to use, in order to help improve the performance of the PS4 version. This will likely result in a more stable framerate during high loads, but it is not likely to result in the games framerate being bumped from it’s current 1080p 30FPS to 60FPS. Â
Â
Â
The PC version of the game is currently available on both Windows and Mac OS X, meaning that the improvements brought to the PC version of the game will not apply to the whole PC userbase, since DirectX 12 will not work outside of Windows.Â
The Vulkan API sounds like ot would be a better fit for ESO given it’s multi OS nature, but the developers are likely adopting DirectX 12 as the improvements will apply to both Windows PC and the Xbox One version.Â
