Leaked RX 6800 XT Benchmarks points towards strong 4K performance

New benchmark results for AMD’s rumoured RX 6800 XT has been leaked via Igor’s Lab, highlighting the GPU’s 4K performance in 3DMARK Fire Strike Extreme, Time Spy Extreme and Port Royal.

All of these benchmarks have been manually set to a resolution of 4K, making benchmarks like 3DMARK Port Royal a lot more demanding than it typically would be.

These benchmark results allegedly come from an AMD add-in board partner who manufactures both AMD and Nvidia graphics cards, testing AMD’s RX 6800 XT using pre-release drivers on an Intel-based testing platform. Igor’s Lab has also reported that AMD’s latest drivers reportedly deliver an additional 10% performance boost.

Based on these results, AMD’s RX 6800 XT offers more performance than Nvidia’s RTX 3080 in traditional workloads, offering gamers a significant performance lead in 3DMARK Fire Strike 4K. This lead narrows with 3DMARK Time Spy to 3%, highlighting how AMD’s performance advantage is game/workload dependant.

In 3DMARK Port Royal at 4K, Nvidia’s RTX 3080 appears to have a 22% performance advantage, with AMD’s RX 6800 XT having a performance lead of 4% over Nvidia’s RTX 2080 Ti. At this time it is unknown how AMD’s RX 6800 XT performs when 3DMARK Port Royal runs at its default 1440p resolution.

As noted before, newer AMD drivers reportedly give AMD’s RX 6800 XT a notable performance boost. Even so, Ampere appears to have a substantial performance advantage in UL Benchmark’s ray tracing test.

If these benchmark results are legitimate, AMD’s RX 6000 series will offer gamers a performance advantage in rasterised workloads over their Nvidia rivals. That said, Nvidia’s reported ray tracing edge would become more of a factor as ray tracing becomes more common within future PC releases. It is also worth noting that Nvidia’s DLSS technology won’t be supported on Radeon hardware, giving Nvidia another advantage.

Regardless of what way you look at these benchmarks, AMD’s RX 6800 XT appears to be a strong competitor to Nvidia’s RTX 3080 graphics card, which is excellent news for the PC gaming market and excellent news for AMD. Even so, Nvidia’s technological advantage with DLSS will allow the company to maintain a strong footing, even if AMD can deliver stronger performance levels in traditional workloads.
