New variant confirmed? GDDR6 powered GeForce RTX 4070 pictured
Slight downgrade? Galax RTX 4070 GDDR6 GPU pictured
Videocardz has managed to uncover images of the first confirmed GDDR6-based Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card. This GPU replaces the GDDR6X memory uses in standard RTX 4070 models with more readily available GDDR6 memory. Rumour has it that Nvidia has created this new GPU SKU to combat GDDR6X memory shortages, allowing Nvidia to focus GDDR6X supply on higher-end GPUs.
As previously rumoured, this graphics card reportedly uses 20 Gbps GDDR6 memory. This is 5% slower than the 21 Gbps GDDR6X memory on already available RTX 4070 graphics cards. This could make this graphics card slower in memory-limited workloads. Like standard RTX 4070 models, this GPU features 5888 CUDA cores.
This new GPU model from Galax is their RTX 4070 1-Click OC 2X (GDDR6) graphics card. Note that this GPU features a single 8-pin PCIe power connector and a dual-fan cooling solution. This GPU isn’t a 12VHPWR or 12V-2×6 graphics card. Videocardz has claimed that this GPU uses an AD104-251 core, not a AD104-250 core like other RTX 4070 models.
Currently, it is unknown when this new GPU model will come to market. Given the release of the above image, we expect new GDDR6 based RTX 4070 GPUs to become available soon.
