No Man’s Sky taking off June 2016

British developer Hello Games has announced that No Man’s Sky, their upcoming open universe science-fiction game, will launch in June 2016. This was revealed during the Sony press conference at Paris Games Week, which takes place this week.

During the press conference, a brand new trailer of the game was shown, which ended with the announcement of its release date. Surprisingly enough, the crowd reacted with a very meager applause. With that being said, there were some rumours going around that the game would release this week. This was quickly debunked by Hello Games though.

Following the press conference, Sean Murray, founder of Hello Games, wrote a blog post on PlayStation’s official blog. In this blog post, Murray emphasized their ambition with No Man’s Sky.

“This is a game that means everything to our team. I have wanted to play something like No Man’s Sky since I was a kid, and many of you have told me you feel the same. For all of us, we get one shot to make this game and we can’t mess it up. Our small team knows the world is watching, we’ve come from the bottom and we don’t take it lightly.”

No Man’s Sky will launch on both PC and PS4, and will feature an enormous universe consisting of over 18 quintillion planets. 18,446,744,073,709,551,616, to be precise. To explore all of these planets, one would need to play for 5 billion years straight. There’s one thing we can say for sure; we can’t wait to explore this game’s cosmos. Next year.
