Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 12GB to return in June – Leaker claims

Nvidia’s reportedly bringing back its RTX 3060 12GB in June – Delaying RTX 5050 9GB

According to the leaker MEGAsizeGPU, Nvidia has put its plans for a 9GB RTX 5050 GPU on hold. In June, Nvidia is reportedly relaunching its RTX 3060 12GB GPU, giving the low-end GPU market new hardware options.

If this report is true, Nvidia will be reviving a 2021 product in 2026. In a sense, this showcases how well the RTX 3060 12GB has aged. On the other hand, it highlights how supply-constrained Nvidia is within today’s GPU market. To put it simply, Nvidia wouldn’t be doing this unless they felt they needed to.

Why the RTX 3060?

NVIDIA’s RTX 40 and RTX 50 series both use TSMC’s 4nm production process. As such, producing RTX 40-series GPUs would divert production capacity from Nvidia’s newer RTX 50 series. By reviving its older RTX 30 series, Nvidia can use Samsung’s 8nm lithography node, which has undoubtedly matured and become more cost-effective since the RTX 30 series launched. This means that Nvidia will use separate fab space and will not affect the production of its newer products. Nvidia’s RTX 30 series launched in 2021 using Samsung’s 8nm lithography node.

Honestly, reviving the RTX 3060 would be a strange move from Nvidia. After all, Nvidia’s RTX 30 series does not support Nvidia’s newest RTX features. DLSS Frame Generation and Multi-Frame Generation are unsupported. This places this GPU at a disadvantage compared with newer Nvidia GPU models.

While restarting RTX 30-series production could be seen as a clever move to address shortages, the RTX 3060 is a low-end GPU by today’s standards. That said, its 12GB frame buffer will allow it to play the newest games without VRAM issues, unlike many newer GPUs.
