Nvidia’s RTX 5070 launch was pathetic

Nvidia’s RTX 5070 launch is a new low for Nvidia

Nvidia’s RTX 5070 launched today, but you could be forgiven for not realising it. Usually, we would spend a day like today analysing the pricing of this new GPU or looking into how long it managed to be in stock. This time, we simply need to ask ourselves, “Did Nvidia really launch a new GPU today?” If we could summarise today’s RTX 5070 launch with one word, that word would be “pathetic.”

Retail availability is practically non-existent. The only GPU we found in stock was available for £709.99, £20 less than Nvidia’s RTX 5070 Ti MSRP and £170 above Nvidia’s RTX 5070 MSRP. That was minutes after the GPU’s launch. Some retailers had no GPU stock ahead of Nvidia’s launch. Nvidia also delayed its RTX 5070 to “later in March,” adding to their GPU’s non-availability. Clearly, even Nvidia weren’t ready for this GPU launch.

One retailer confirmed that it would be receiving a “small number of limited SKUs” today. Honestly, it looks like Nvidia needed to delay its RTX 5070 launch but simply refused to do so. People have complained about Nvidia’s prior RTX 50 series GPUs having so-called “paper” launches. By comparison, the RTX 5070’s release is a non-launch.

Even without the Radeon RX 9070 series overshadowing it (see our RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT review here), Nvidia’s RTX 5070 launch would be seen as disappointing. Today’s launch brings an entirely new meaning to the phrase “insufficient stock.” That said, even if it were in stock, we would recommend that you buy a Radeon RX 9070 or RX 9070 XT instead. That’s where the value for money is.
