QA Consultants find AMD’s graphics drivers to be most stable

QA Consultants, an independent provider of software quality assurance and testing services, has released a report which has found that AMD/Radeon offer the most stable graphics drivers.

This testing was conducted over a range of twelve GPUs, six AMD Radeon (3 Gaming 3 Workstation) and six Nvidia (3 Geforce and 3 Quadro), each of which was tested for twelve days using Microsoft’s Windows Hardware Lab Kit (HLK) to determine which graphics card manufacturer offered the most stable graphics card drivers.

During these tests, AMD’s graphics hardware passed 93% of all tests while Nvidia’s graphics cards passed 82% of the scheduled tests, showing that AMD’s WHQL drivers are more stable than their Nvidia counterparts. Nvidia-powered systems failed over two times as often as their AMD-powered counterparts.

This testing was commissioned by AMD and conducted by the third party experts at QA Consultants, who have previously worked on over 5,000 testing and consulting projects from clients that include the US and Canadian Governments as well as a range of healthcare, insurance, retail and telecommunications companies.

Commissioned by AMD, QA Consultants used Microsoft’s Windows Hardware Lab Kit (HLK) to conduct a 12-day head-to-head test comparing AMD and Nvidia graphics drivers. The test compared 12 GPU’s, six from AMD and six from NVIDIA, running on 12 identical machines. All machines were configured with Windows 10 April 2018 Update. Both gaming and professional GPUs were equally represented in the testing. After running for 12 days of 24-hour stress tests, the aggregate of AMD products passed 93% of the scheduled tests. The aggregate of NVIDIA products passed 82% of the scheduled tests.

QA Consultant’s test results are available to view here. Testing was conducted on twelve identical machines over twelve days on an isolated network.
