Retailer lists a huge number of Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 SUPER graphics cards ahead of CES

Retail lists 24 RTX 4090 SUPER models in what appears to be a SUPER mistake

The European retailer Proshop has sent the PC hardware community buzzing by listing 24 RTX 4090 SUPER graphics cards on their website. If these listings are legitimate, it looks like Nvidia are planning to reveal a new gaming flagship. Nvidia’s most powerful GPU may be getting the SUPER treatment. Well, probably not.

Proshop’s RTX 4090 SUPER listings included models from Inno3D, ASUS, MSI, and other major Nvidia partners. That said, these listings all feature specifications that are the same as Nvidia’s existing RTX 4090. Beyond that, recent embargo leaks from Nvidia do not list an 4090 SUPER as part of the company’s hardware roadmap. As such, we believe that these new RTX 4090 listings were an error.

At CES 2024, Nvidia will be hosting a “Special Address“. Here, Nvidia are due to announce their RTX 4070 SUPER, RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, and RTX 4080 SUPER graphics cards. Could Nvidia have an 4090 SUPER waiting in the wings as a surprise reveal? Probably not, but that would be impressed if Nvidia could keep such a product a secret.

Could Nvidia create an RTX 4090 SUPER/ RTX 4090 Ti?

Nvidia has long been rumoured to be working on an RTX 4090 Ti graphics card. These plans were reportedly cancelled in Summer 2023. That said, there is no reason why Nvidia could not revive this project.

When Nvidia created their RTX 4090, they did not utilise all of the potential of their AD102 silicon. AD102 features 18,432 CUDA cores, and the RTX 4090 features 16,384. In theory, Nvidia could create a GPU with 12.5% more CUDA cores. With that, faster GDDR6X memory, and an increase in power budget, Nvidia could create a GPU worthy of the RTX 4090 Ti name.

While Nvidia could create a new RTX 40 series flagship, they don’t need to. AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XTX is not an RTX 4090 competitor, and that unquestionably places Nvidia at the top of the GPU market. Nvidia does not need to create a new flagship GPU, and doing so would simply devalue their existing RTX 4090.
