SoftBank takes a $4 Billion stake in Nvidia

SoftBank Group has now amassed a $4 billion stake in Nvidia, recently announcing that they had an undisclosed stake in the company after investing $93 Billion in technology investment.

Under US law, companies have to disclose the holding of 4.9% or more, which would make SoftBank’s investment worth at least $4 billion and make SoftBank Nvidia’s 4th biggest investor. SoftBank has made a lot of investments in technology over the past few years, recently acquiring the UK CPU maker ARM for £21 billion in September 2016.

SoftBank’s founder, Masayoshi Son, plans on becoming the biggest investor over the next decade, placing bets on emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and self-driving cars, which are markets where Nvidia are starting to make waves. Nvidia’s stock price has already raised by over 300% since the start of 2016, making the company seem like an attractive investment if Nvidia’s AI and self-driving car ambitions continue to pay off.
