Aeneon Launches X-TUNE Overclocking 1066MHz DDR2 Memory

Aeneon, a Qimonda AG brand, announced the availability of a new series of overclocking memory modules designed on the needs of demanding users looking for highest speed and reduced latency. The new XTUNEâ„¢ overclocking series consists of DDR2 1066MHz overclocking memory modules offering exceptional system performance without any compromise on fast, stable and reliable system operation.

With the XTUNE series Aeneon is the worldwide first memory vendor, providing high-performance memory modules without the need of higher supply voltages. The 1066MHz Dual Inline Memory Modules (DIMMs) operate at the standard DDR2 voltage value of 1.8V. This results in higher reliability and longer lifetime.

The XTUNE memory modules support the Enhanced Performance Profile (EPP) standard, simplifying the usage of the overclocking feature. The standard provides an easy to use solution as the overclocking settings are preconfigured on the modules and can be read out by all motherboards supporting EPP. If the EPP feature is enabled the system parameters are automatically adjusted to the overclocking parameters supported by the memory module.

“In combination with a powerful processor and a high-end graphic card enthusiastic 3D gamers can take full advantage of the capabilities of the new high-performance overclocking memory modules,” said Dr Carsten Gatzke, Vice President of the Business Unit Aeneon at Qimonda. “The high system performance combined with the support of the new EPP standard and operation at standard 1.8V voltage enables a powerful and reliable Plug&Play solution.”

Overclocking is a popular technique for getting more performance from a PC system. The approach is that the microprocessor or memory runs faster than the speed for which it has been specified and approved. Overclocking memory modules offered by Aeneon overcome the risks such as over-heating or instable operation as they are tested and specified to run at the higher frequency compared to the related standard memories.

Key Features of the XTUNE family

The XTUNE DDR2 memory modules are available with densities of 512MByte (AXT660UD00-19D) and 1GByte (AXT760UD00-19D). Both single modules are tested to run at 1066MHz at a latency timing of 5-5-5-15 at the standard DDR2 voltage value of 1.8 V. The modules can be organized as 64M or 128M x 64 bit respectively based on 8 (16) components of 64M x 8-bit DDR2 FBGA chips. XTUNE DDR2 memory modules are offered in dual channel kits with two identical modules (2x512MB or 2x1GB) tested together in dual channel mode at 1066MHz at a latency timing of 5-5-5-15.

The 240-pin DIMMs are equipped with a high-quality heat spreader to avoid critical operating temperatures. For non-overclocking usage the DIMMs support 800 MHz (5-5-5-15) operation in industry standard mode. The new overclocking DIMMs will be available through the authorized Aeneon sales representatives and distributors starting May 2007.
