ASUS have today announced their new ROG Rapture GT-AC5300, a router that comes with some significant upgrades when compared to ASUS’ already impressive AC5300

When this router first came to our attention, our first thoughts were that this was a simple ROG Gaming branded version of ASUS’ existing AC5300, but this couldn’t be further from the truth.

To start off, the Rapture GT-AC5300 comes with an upgraded internal processor, which is now a quad core which operates at 1.8GHz instead of the AC5300’s dual-core 1.4GHz processor. This will allow the Rapture to finish processing tasks faster and the ability to handle additional USB and Ethernet ports. This router has also got two times as much RAM as the standard AC-5300

Like the ASUS AC5300, the Rapture is designed to do is deliver an unparalleled wireless experience, offering not just one but two 5G wireless networks and faster wireless data rates than what is possible on traditional routers through Broadcom’s NitroQAM technology, allowing 5G data rates of 2167Mbps and 2G data rates of 1000Mbps.

When compared to the standard ASUS AC5300, the ROG Rapture offers two times as many Ethernet ports and USB ports, allowing this device to be connected to a larger home network. Gamers will also be able to use the router’s dedicated gaming ports in order to prioritise networking traffic from connected devices with minimal latency, which combined with Game Mode can greatly improve your online gaming experience.

If you are a heavy gamer you can use ASUS’ “Game Boost” Function to prioritise your gaming traffic, allowing you to reduce your Ping time, variation and have the best experience that is possible on your internet connection. What this router can also do is find the optimal way of routing your internet traffic around the world in order to get you data to take the quickest and most efficient route, giving you consistently lower ping and minimal packet loss, though this can only be applied to a single device at a time.

When buying your own router one of the key reasons to do so is to give yourself full control of your own home network, which can be done through traditional means or through the ASUS ROG Gaming Center App, which allows you to monitor your network traffic in real time, share your WiFi with your family or guests easily or even update your router’s firmware with ease.

In short, the ROG Rapture GT-AC5300 offers extensive upgrades over the ASUS AC5300, with with a £50 higher MSRP at £349.99 is a steal considering the additional features and hardware upgrades available.
