While right now seeming everyone is working to produce the first Self driving cars, from Google to Nvidia, but Ehany believes that you need to dream a little more elevated, creating a large drone that can carry a passenger for up to 10 miles.   

The Ehang 184 drone is an electric drone which uses the standard quad-copter design to create an autonomous drone that can travel their passenger to any destination using their phone app. 

Ehang CEO, Huazhi Hu had this to say about the 184 drone. 

 

It’s been a lifetime goal of mine to make flight faster, easier and more convenient than ever. The 184 provides a viable solution to the many challenges the transportation industry faces in a safe and energy efficient way,

  

Right now the price of the commercial version of this drone is currently unavailable, but it is claimed to be available for purchase later this year. 

 

  

The drone is designed to act without any human interaction, choosing an optimal flight path and operating with a number of fail-safes to protect the user in the even of hardware failure.  

The Ehang 184 is named after it’s 1 passenger, 8 propellers and 4 arms and can fly at up to 60 miles per hour for a distance of around 10 miles, though this range will change depending on weather conditions. 

 

      The fully ready-to-fly 184 is a manned drone capable of automatically carrying a passenger through the air, simply by entering a destination into its accompanying smartphone app.

The 184 uses multiple independent flight control systems to automatically navigate passengers from point A to point B. 

These systems combine real-time data collected from sensors throughout the flight and automatically plot the fastest and safest route to carry passengers to their destinations.

The EHang 184 has built in reinforcements for all flight systems, so that in the unlikely event that a component does fail, multiple backups are already in place to seamlessly take over. 

 

      

 

The Ehang 184 drone is certainly one of the weirdest things to come out of CES this year and still faces a lot of legislative problems before it can be released to the public, especially given the recent laws which apply to drone tech.
