GAME UK’s ending its game trade-in service
Say goodbye to pre-owned video games at GAME UK
GAME, one of the UK’s most popular gaming retailers, is exiting the pre-owned games market. Frasers Group, GAME’s parent company, has confirmed that the company will no longer accept trade-ins within the next few months.
For many gamers, trading in your older titles to purchase new ones was a common practice, as was buying pre-owned games to help your money stretch further. For a long time, GAME was one of the best places to trade-in and purchase pre-owned games. Soon, that will be a thing of the past.
This news was first reported by Eurogamer, who received this news from retail staff. This has since been confirmed by the company, who has stated that trade-in, pre-owned and Game Elite offerings will be phased out over the coming months. Pre-owned games will remain available at UK stores while stocks last, and Game Elite will be available until the end of this Summer. Game’s Elite programme is the company’s rewards system, which costs £3 per month and offers gamers a variety of benefits.
(UK gamers can still trade-in their games at CeX)
Thankfully, UK gamers will have other options if they wish to sell their used games for cash. CeX remains a great option for those who want to trade-in games, DVDs, Blu-rays and other used technology devices.
GAME’s plan to remove pre-owned sales makes sense given the overall decline of physical game sales. Removing pre-owned games and trade-ins will streamline the company’s operations and reduce costs. That said, it is sad to see this gaming staple get phased out. Over the years I have played countless pre-owned games, and many of those titles were purchased at GAME.
