Man arrested after attempting to steal TSMC’s 28nm trade secrets in Taiwan
A former TSMC employee has been arrested after attempting to steal the company’s 28nm trade secrets and deliver them to his new employer, Huali Microelectronics.
The TSMC employee in question is only known as Hsu (his surname) by the press, with TSMC reporting that Hsu made “large scale” use of the company’s photocopiers while serving his notice, with copied materials being found later at his residence.
According to Taiwan News, Hsu was planning to pass on information regarding TSMC’s 28nm manufacturing process to Huali Microelectronics to speed up the companies process node advancement. Huali Microelectronics was founded in 2010, with the company already creating trail 28nm products.
Right now, Hsu is reportedly being charged with breaches of Taiwan’s Penal code and violating the country’s Trade Secrets Act. At this time TSMC and Huali Microelectronics has not commented on Hsu’s arrest.
