Nintendo is bringing back the Virtual Boy, giving Switch and Switch 2 owners a classic VR experience
Nintendo has announced that its Virtual Boy console is making a comeback, arriving as a “Nintendo Classics” experience for Switch and Switch 2 console owners.
Virtual Boy games will be coming to both Switch systems as part of Nintendo’s “Switch Online + Expansion Pack” service. These games will arrive on February 17th 2026. Note that this Virtual Boy emulation will require new Nintendo hardware. Users will need to purchase a plastic Virtual Boy headset that users can slot their Switch and Switch 2 consoles into.

Nintendo’s new Virtual Boy accessory looks like the 90’s original, complete with its ugly desk stand. It contains lenses and everything else necessary to make your Switch/Switch 2 VR-ready. At launch, the headset will support 14 Virtual Boy games through Nintendo’s Switch Online emulation service. This includes Wario Land, Galactic Pinball, Red Alarm, Teleroboxer, Mario Tennis, Vertical Force, Mario Clash, Golf, Tetris 3D, Virtual Bowling, and Space Invaders. More games will be released “over time”.
