Prusa transforms its 3D printer lineup with their new CORE One
A new era of Prusa 3D printing has started – Meet the Prusa CORE One
Prusa 3D printers are legendary. The original Prusa i3 was a huge part of the modern 3D printing revolution, and its successors are known to be some of the most reliable and well-regarded 3D printers on the market. Now, a new era for Prusa has started. Today, the Prusa CORE One has arrived, a new CoreXY 3D printer that builds upon the success of the MK4S.
The CORE One is a fully enclosed 3D printer with active temperature control that delivers a huge speed boost over the MK4S. The machine features a large 250x220x270 build area and utilises many of the design features of the Prusa MK4S and the Prusa XL. This 3D printer will be available pre-build or as a kit. These versions have UK prices of £1138.80 and £874.80 respectively.
The CORE One was made to complement the Prusa MK4S, not replace it. Both models will continue to be updated and manufactured. Prusa has even confirmed that they have plans to release a USB-C camera accessory for the MK4S print monitoring.
The Prusa CORE One is FAST!
Despite being a “bed-slinger,” Prusa’s MK4 and MK4S deliver 3D printing speeds similar to those of many competing CoreXY 3D printers. Now that Prusa has upgraded to CoreXY technology, they have boosted their 3D printing speeds again. Prusa estimates that their new CORE 3D printer is 15-20% faster than the MK4S. That places Prusa ahead of many of its competitors when it comes to print speeds while maintaining the quality prints that it is known for.
MK4S users can upgrade their printers to build a CORE One
While the CORE One is a fundamentally new 3D printer design, MK4S owners can convert their 3D printer to Prusa’s new model. Sadly, MK4 owners will need to upgrade their printer to a MK4S before upgrading to the Core One, as the Core One uses MK4S parts.
This update kit will be available around March 2025, with an estimated UK cost of £406.80. The CORE One also supports MK4S accessories like the MMU3, allowing it to be carried over if users decide to upgraded/convert their printers.
Upgradability and Repairability
The CORE One is designed to be the “new platform for the future.” That means that this 3D printer is designed to be repairable and upgradable. This 3D printer isn’t welded or glued together. That makes all parts easy to access, replace, and upgrade. While Prusa has not confirmed plans for a “Core Two” or “Core 1S” 3D printer, we certainly expect them.
The Prusa CORE One will start shipping in January 2025. This is when mass production starts for this new 3D printer. Prusa is currently showing off their CORE One at FormNext in Frankfurt.
