Resident Evil is coming to Netflix as a live-action series

Netflix has confirmed that Resident Evil will be coming to their streaming platform in the form of a live-action series,  launching as an eight-episode series to deliver an hours worth of content with each episode.

The series will be written by Andrew Dabb, who previously worked on Supernatural, and take place across two timelines. The first will follow a pair of “Wesker kids” (yes, that Wesker), as they move to Racoon City and the second will show the world after it has been ravaged by the T-Virus.

The main protagonists of the series will be Jade and Billie Wesker, who are presumably daughters of Albert Wesker, a major antagonist of the Resident Evil franchise. Below is a brief plot synopsis that has been provided by Netflix.

In the first timeline, 14-year-old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker are moved to New Raccoon City. A manufactured, corporate town, forced on them right as adolescence is in full swing. But the more time they spend there, the more they come to realize that the town is more than it seems and their father may be concealing dark secrets. Secrets that could destroy the world.

Cut to the second timeline, well over a decade into the future: there are less than fifteen million people left on Earth. And more than six billion monsters — people and animals infected with the T-virus. Jade, now thirty, struggles to survive in this New World, while the secrets from her past — about her sister, her father and herself — continue to haunt her.

Bronwen Hughes has been named as Resident Evil’s executive producer and as the director of Resident Evil’s first two episodes. Hughes is well known for his work on The Walking Dead series and  The Journey is the Destination.

At this time, it is unknown when Netflix’ Resident Evil series is due to be released.
