In a report by Reuters, Ryan confirmed that “Sony pre-sold as many PS5 consoles in the first 12 hours in the United States as in the first 12 weeks for its predecessor PlayStation 4 device.” That said, it is worth noting that Sony opened pre-orders for their PlayStation 4 console further away from launch than their PlayStation 5 system, and that online console pre-orders were a lot less common when the PlayStation 4 launched in 2013.   Â
With the PlayStation 4’s launch reaching its 7th anniversary next month, many gamers are ready to get their hands on a new gaming system. Restrictions brought on by the Coronavirus pandemic have all encouraged gamers to invest more in their gaming setups. The PlayStation 5’s strong launch lineup, which includes Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon Souls, will also pull more gamers towards purchasing Sony’s next-generation gaming system.Â
Jim Ryan has stated that “not everybody who wants to buy a PS5 on launch day will be able to find one”, saying that the company is “working as hard as we ever can” to keep up with demand.Â
