The Bambu Lab X2D has arrived, and it’s aggressively priced
Bambu Lab launches its X2D 3D printer at a shockingly low price
After a time of teasing, Bambu Lab has officially unveiled its X2D 3D printer, the company’s highly anticipated replacement for its popular X1 Carbon. With this new model comes a suite of features, including an “auxiliary nozzle”, AI error detection, and more.
This new printer costs just £90 more than Bambu Labs’ recently released P2S 3D printer. For that money, users get active chamber heating up to 65 degrees Celsius, a second “auxiliary” nozzle, faster multi-colour printing, and a slightly taller build volume. In many ways, the X2D sits between the P2S, delivering most of the H2D’s features (see our Bambu Lab H2D review here) in the smaller P2S form factor. Better still, the price is absurdly close to the P2S, making it an easy recommendation for anyone wanting something higher-end than a P2S.
A dual-nozzle 3D printer – It’s complicated
You may have noticed that the secondary nozzle on the X2D is called the “auxiliary nozzle” and not the “second nozzle”. The first nozzle on this printer is a direct-drive nozzle and is considered the printer’s main/primary nozzle. The second nozzle is fed using a Bowden tube, which is delightfully old-school. While this had its disadvantages, it reduces the weight of this 3D printer’s hot end. This boosts the X2D’s printing speed and quality. That said, unlike the Bambu Lab H2D, both nozzles on this 3D printer aren’t effectively identical.
The second nozzle on this 3D printer is ideal for adding secondary colours to your 3D prints and for use as a dedicated hot end for support or secondary materials. However, it is worth noting that using the second nozzle reduces this printer’s usable build/printing area. Using the second nozzle reduces it from 256/256/260 mm to 235.5/256/256mm.
For just £90 more than the P2S, the X2D is an excellent upgrade for users who enjoy multi-colour/material 3D printing. It is also a good printer for users who need a heated chamber and use exotic filaments.
Starting today, the Bambu Lab X2D is available for £569 in the UK. It is also available for £769 when bundled with an AMS 2 Pro.
