Disney confirms that a Mandalorian movie is in the works

Disney has confirmed that they are working on a new Star Wars movie, starring both The Mandalorian and Grogu as they embark on their latest adventure. The movie is set to enter production this year with Jon Favreau acting as director. Producing the film will be Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni.

The Mandalorian series and other Disney+ shows have been some of the best Star Wars content that we have seen in recent years. Tt makes sense for Disney to use the series as the franchise’s gateway back into the movie business. Let’s face it, the last few Star Wars movies have not been great, and the franchise’s TV series’ have proven to be hugely successful. Why not use one to support the other?

Disney has also confirmed that series 2 of Ahsoka is also in the works. Tt will continue on from the finale of season 1. The company has also confirmed that other new Star Wars movies are planned. Below is what Disney had to say about their upcoming The Mandalorian movie.

The Mandalorian and Grogu are embarking on a new adventure — to movie theaters.

Directed by Jon Favreau, and produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni, The Mandalorian & Grogu will go into production in 2024.

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” said Favreau. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

“Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen,” added Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm.

The Mandalorian & Grogu will lead Lucasfilm’s ongoing feature-development slate, including films helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni, who is also currently developing Ahsoka Season 2, among those in the works.
