YouTuber exposes the Honey Browser Extension as a “scam”

PayPal Honey has been accused of stealing affiliate revenue from creators and giving users bad deals

YouTuber MegaLag has released a comprehensive expose on the PayPal Honey web extension, accusing it of poaching the creators’ affiliate revenues and offering customers sub-optimal deals.

If you have ever watched YouTube, you probably have heard of Honey. Honey, now PayPal Honey, is a browser extension that claims to scan the web for the best coupon codes for purchases. In theory, this allows users to get the best deals online, saving them money. The app is well known for sponsoring many popular YouTubers, including Mr Beast, Linus Tech Tips, and Mark Rober.

During his investigation, MegaLag found that Honey was ripping off its users and YouTubers who promoted the app. With partnered websites, the app would not find the best coupons for users but claims to have done so. This would let customers think they are getting the best deal and earn partners more revenue. This goes against Honey’s very purpose by giving users sub-optimal deals.

Honey is also exploiting the creators who promoted the app

Affiliate sales are important for YouTubers, as it allows them to generate some revenue by recommending products to users. Users click on their affiliate links, and those creators get a small commission when users purchase products from that website.

MegaLag’s investigation has found that Honey has been removing and replacing the affiliate codes of creators and replacing it with their own. This denies creators their rightful earned affiliate revenue. Honey is effectively poaching these commissions from the creators they used to market their extension.

So not only is this extension giving users bad deals but also robbing affiliate revenues from their rightful earners. Not only is this a betrayal of the trust of users, but it is also a betrayal of anyone who promoted the app. Several creators have already reportedly stopped promoting this extension due to these actions.

This story doesn’t end here. MegaLag claims to have another video in the works that further exposes PayPal Honey’s wrongdoings. This video will be released Soon.
