30 FPS no more! PC modders have finally unlocked Need for Speed Rivals’ framerate

After 10 years, PC modders have finally unlocked Need for Speed Rivals’ framerate

Need for Speed Rivals is now 10 years old, and PC gamers can now finally enjoy the street racing game with an unlocked framerate. Rivals shipped with a 30 FPS framerate cap on both PC and consoles. Until now, modders have been unable to remove this framerate cap, as doing so has previously broke the game in a myriad of ways.

Now, thanks to a modder called Brawltendo, PC gamers can now unlock the framerate of Need for Speed Rivals. This allows the game to be played at 60 FPS, 120 FPS, or higher framerates on PC. This makes now a great time to replay the Rivals on PC,

Despite the game’s framerate cap on PC, Need for Speed Rivals enjoys a “Mostly Positive” review rating on Steam. Most negative reviews f0r the game complain about its 30 FPS cap. Now that this is fixed, PC gamers will have little to complain about.

Information about Brawltendo’s FPS unlocking mode for Need for Speed Rivals is available on Github. This includes an installation guide for the mod itself. The modder has also written a blog post about unlocking the game’s framerate, explaining how they created the mod. This mod could be used as the basis for other FPS unlocking mods for other Frostbite engine games from EA.
