Divinity will be much bigger than Baldur’s Gate 3 – Larain confirms
Larain Studio’s next game will be bigger than Baldur’s Gate 3 and use its own IP
At the 2025 The Game Awards, Larain Studios unveiled their next game, Divinity, an RPG that promises to be the company’s “biggest game ever”.
For those who are unaware, Larain Studios is the game developer behind Baldur’s Gate 3, one of the most popular RPGs of recent years. Before Baldur’s Gate 3, Larain created several games in their Divinity series, with Divinity: Original Sin and its sequel being the most popular. Now, Larain has taken what they learned from Baldur’s Gate 3 and is returning to the Divinity series to create something even bigger than Baldur’s Gate 3.
Divinity is a new game and won’t require experience with prior games to understand. That said, players of older games will have a deeper understanding of the world and its history.
While Divinity is a brand new game that doesn’t require experience with previous Larian titles, those who’ve played Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2 will be able to enjoy greater understanding and continuity.
Sadly, no gameplay for Divinity has been released, just a cinematic trailer. This trailer is much darker than anything we have seen from Larain before. That said, it does set the scene for the game they want to create.
(Warning, this trailer is very Adult)
Unchained ambition
Unlike with Baldur’s Gate 3, Larain Studios Divinity will use the company’s own IP. They will not be chained to the wills of Wizards of the Coast or some other IP owner. With Divinity, Larain has a homegrown fantasy world where they can do whatever they want.
Larain wants to build a game with greater breadth and depth than anything they have ever made before. The success of Baldur’s Gate 3 will enable them to do that. Everything that Larain has done so far has been building up to this. Let’s hope it works out for them.
