Fate of the Old Republic is the Star Wars RPG I’ve been waiting for

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic may finally have a worthy successor

At the 2025 The Game Awards, Arcanaut Games unveiled Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, a new single-player RPG intended as a spiritual successor to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

Fate of the Old Republic is a new game with a new story and characters that’s set in “The Old Republic” era. Players will become a force user in a galaxy on the edge of rebirth. Casey Hudson, the director of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect trilogy, will be the lead developer of this game.

If Star Wars fans want to see a new KOTOR game, this could be it. Sadly, Fate of the Old Republic has no release date. Additionally, no gameplay has been shown. Regardless, with veterans of the original KOTOR team, Arcanaut Games has what it takes to build a true successor.

Arcanaut Games has confirmed that Fate of the Old Republic is in development for PC and consoles. Exact platform support for the game has not been confirmed. Since Arcanaut Games was founded in July 2025, we know that Fate of the Old Republic is in early development. As such, gamers can expect a long wait before they get a release date, gameplay trailers, and other information. Regardless, it’s exciting that a new KOTOR-inspired game is in the works, and that Casey Hudson is leading its development.
