Epic Games’ latest Fortnite update weighs in at a whopping 27GB, which while small when compared to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it much larger than what players of the free-to-play Battle Royale game would typically expect.

Thankfully, this patch should come as good news for PC gamers, as while the patch is 27GB in size, it contains optimisations that will decrease the game’s size by over 60GB. Before now, Fortnite took up around 90GB of storage, which means that the game has become two thirds smaller through the application of a single patch.

Epic Games has made sweeping changes to Fortnite’s file structure, optimising several aspects of the multiplayer shooter. This patch has also made changes to Fortnite which will allow future game patches to be smaller in size and other changes which will decrease the game’s loading times on PC.

With 60GB of extra storage, Fortnite players on PC will now have more space to install more games on their systems. After this patch, Fortnite will now take up less than 35GB of storage space on PC. Perhaps Call of Duty: Modern Warfare needs a similar file system overhaul.
