Microsoft drops its $80 price tag for The Outer Worlds 2

The Outer Worlds 2 will now cost $69.99/£59.99

Last month, Microsoft revealed that The Outer Worlds 2 would be the company’s first $80 game. This followed Nintendo’s lead following the $80 launch of Mario Kart World on Switch 2, a move which has prompted other game developers to increase their prices. Now, Microsoft has chosen to backtrack, dropping the price of The Outer Worlds down to $69.99/£59.99.

The Outer Worlds 2 is Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming sequel to The Outer Worlds. The game promises to be a much larger RPG than its predecessor. Regardless, gamers were rightly annoyed that the price of the game’s base version would be much higher than expected. Microsoft has seemingly responded to this backlash by lowering the game’s price by $10. Below is what a Microsoft spokesperson had to say.

We’re focused on bringing players incredible worlds to explore, and will keep our full priced holiday releases, including The Outer Worlds 2, at $69.99 – in line with current market conditions.

Today’s news should come as good news to all gamers, as Microsoft’s statement confirms that it will not be releasing any $80 games this year. That means that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be available for $69.99.

Refunds for gamers who pre-ordered The Outer Worlds 2 at its original price will be available soon. Gamers can then pre-order the game again at its new, lower price.
