PlayStation leak reveals Sony’s PC sales figures

Leaked slide showcases Sony’s success on Steam – Expect more PlayStation-to-PC conversions

A leaked slide from on of Sony’s internal presentations has revealed the Steam sales figures of their PC game releases. This data is from February 2023, and reveals that Sony has sold over 3.3 million copies of Horizon: Zero Dawn on the platform. This slide showcases the success of PlayStation PC, Sony’s PC publishing label, and its ability to generate income for the wider PlayStation brand.

It is worth noting that these sales numbers only include PC sales on Valve’s Steam platform. All PlayStation PC releases are also available through the Epic Games Store, and many are available though GOG. As such, these numbers do not show the totality of PlayStation’s PC game sales.

Based on Sony’s leaked slide, Horizon: Zero Dawn has been the company’s most successful PC release. That said, Zero Dawn was also Sony’s first major exclusive to launch on PC. It launches on PC in August 2020, giving the game 2.5 years to generate its 3.3 million sales. In contrast, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered had generated 1.3 million sales in six months.

With many games generating over 1 million sales, it is easy to see why Sony are bringing more PlayStation games to PC. In early 2024, Sony are bringing Horizon: Forbidden West to PC. Horizon Forbidden West will come to PC in the form of Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition. This new version will include bonus content for the game and the game’s Burning Shores expansion. This version of the game is already available to gamers on PlayStation 5.

In the future, PC games can expect to see games like The Last of Us Part II Remastered, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and more come to PC. There is also huge demand for PS4-era hits like Ghosts of Tsushima and Bloodborne.

For Sony, PC gaming is a way for the company to generate more revenue from their PS4 and PS5 exclusives. PlayStation’s PC releases always arrive long after their console counterparts, ensuring that their consoles remain as their primary focus.
