Ratchet & Clank (2016) is getting a 60 FPS update next month for PlayStation 5
Ratchet and Clank (2016) released with a 30FPS cap on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro consoles, allowing Insomniac Games to push the franchise’s visuals further than ever before. Many of Insomniac’s older Ratchet and Clank games ran at 60 FPS on consoles, leaving some fans of the franchise disappointed in the game’s PlayStation 4 reboot.Â
High framerates offer many benefits in fast-paced games, reducing input response time by rendering frames at a faster rate, making animations appear smoother thanks to the fluidity provided by additional interim frames, and making games seem sharper thanks to the addition of the detail from extra frames. Think of it this way, a 60 FPS game renders frames 2x faster than a 30 FPS game and shows players two times as many frames per second, doubling the number of pixels seen by players at any given timeframe. Â
Right now, Ratchet and Clank 2016 is available for free on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 as part of Sony’s Play At Home Initiative, giving all last-generation and current-generation PlayStation owners access to the game before its sequel, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, launches. Ratchet and Clank (2016) will be available for free until March 31st.Â
Updating Ratchet and Clank (2016) for PlayStation 5 allows fans of the series to re-experience the game with smoother framerates and reduced input latency. PlayStation 5 will be the best place to play Ratchet and Clank (2016), though it is worth noting that Insomniac Games has not revealed a resolution upgrade for the game on PlayStation 5. This suggests that Ratchet and Clank will operate at the same resolution as the game’s PlayStation 4 Pro version.Â
