Squadron 42 is now “feature complete” and has entered its “fine tuning” stage

Squadron 42, Chris Roberts’ single-player Star Citizen game, is now “feature complete” and getting ready for launch

Cloud Imperium Games, the studio behind Star Citizen, has confirmed that Squadron 42 is “feature complete”. Now, Squadron 42 is entering the game’s polishing and fine tuning stage, which means that Cloud Imperium Games is finally preparing to launch a game. To celebrate, Cloud Imperium Games have released a 26-minute video on Squadron 42, detailing many aspects of the game.

We are excited to announce that Squadron 42 is now feature-complete!

As we move into the polishing phase, we’re fully focused on optimizing and fine-tuning all aspects of the gameplay experience to deliver an unprecedented cinematic adventure. To celebrate this milestone, we have gathered our core development leadership from around the globe to share what this means.

Thank you for your continued support of Squadron 42.

What is Squadron 42?

Originally, Squadron 42 was intended to be the single-player component of Star Citizen, but was eventually spun out to become its own game. Squadron 42 is a game within the Star Citizen universe. The game has also been described as a “spiritual successor to Wing commander”. However, this is not just a piloting/space combat game, as FPS and other on-foot segments are present within the game.

Now that the game has entered its “polish phase”, Cloud Imperium Games are now focusing on making sure that the game is fun to play and immersive. The game will also be optimised to run well on a variety of hardware configurations. Gameplay will also be fine-tuned to give gamers the best experience possible.

Squadron 42’s campaign will be filled with famous faces. Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Henry Cavill, Gillian Anderson, and Mark Strong all appearing with the game. That is only a small portion of this game’s star studded cast.

(Squadron 42’s latest development update)

In their new development update, Cloud Imperium Games’ Richard Tyrer has stated that the game is in its “final phase of gameplay iteration before we fully transition into optimization and stability on the road to release.” This means that we are still far from launch, though the end is in sight.

Chris Roberts wants to launch this generation’s Wing Commander. That’s a high bar, and we hope that we do not have to wait too long to see the fruit of Cloud Imperium Games’ efforts. As for Star Citizen, the end of that game’s development remains far in the horizon.
