Unreal looks incredible with Nvidia’s RTX Remix tech

Nvidia’s RTX Remix tech gives 1998’s Unreal a huge visual boost

PC gamers can now play Unreal in a whole new way. This is thanks to Nvidia’s RTX Remix technology, and a new mod for the Unreal that optimises it for Nvidia’s path tracing technology.

Thanks to Nvidia’s Jacob Freeman, gamers can now see this new version of 1998’s Unreal in action. Using the new “D3D9DrvRTX” renderer from James Horsley, Unreal can now be played with RTX Remix to add path traced lighting to the game. Even without new assets, Unreal looks great with this lighting overhaul, as you can see in the video below.

Below, we can see Unreal running with this mod on an RTX 4080 graphics card at 4K. As you can see, the game’s framerate is stable with this graphics card. In the future, this game’s visuals could be improved further using Nvidia’s other RTX Remix features.

With RTX Remix, modders can replace the textures and assets of games with new ones. This could allow an remixed version of Unreal to feature higher fidelity models, higher resolution textures, and other improvements. If you want’s achievable with Nvidia’s RTX Remix, tech, just look at Portal with RTX.

This month we have seen many games get receive the RTX Remix treatment. Need for Speed Most Wanted and Need for Speed Rivals now have RTX Remix mods. An RTX Remix mod is also available for Tomb Raider.

Nvidia’s RTX Remix technology has the potential to transform many classic PC games. This could be the start of a new era for fan-made game remasters, with Nvidia’s RTX tech leading the charge.
