Xbox showcases gameplay for Fable, its 2026 action-RPG

Fable is coming to Xbox and PC in Autumn 2026

At Xbox Developer Direct 2026, Playground Games confirmed that Fable would be coming to PC and Xbox in August. While the game lacks a firm release date, the studio has released a new gameplay teaser and a deep dive into their new action-RPG.

While 2026’s Fable will not be linked to prior Fable games, Playground Games aims to deliver the same feel as the originals with its new entry. Fairytale, Britishness, and Choices are the pillars of the Fable series, and that’s what this new entry is based on.

Visually, Fable is a beautiful game, with a detailed but stylised aesthetic. It is currently unknown what resolutions or framerates the game will target on Xbox Series X or S. As such, it is also unknown how the game will run on PC. Since it runs on the Xbox Series S, it should run on most modern gaming PCs with relative ease.

In Fable, choices have consequences. Noble deeds, and questionable ones, will impact your relationships and shape the world. Choices will have consequences, and fairytale endings are not guaranteed. Combat will have melee, ranged, and magic components. Players will be able to move between these combat styles with ease, moving from magic attacks that can target multiple foes to one-on-one melee slashes.

Xbox Developer Direct did not reveal everything we wanted to know about Fable. That said, we still have to wait until Autumn for this game to release. That means that Xbox has plenty of time to show us more.
