GPD reveals their WIN 2 Handheld gaming PC
While this goal may seem unachievable, GPD has managed to fit a gaming PC into the form factor that is similar to Nintendo DS XL, offering a 6-inch 720p screen and both keyboard and gamepad control options integrated into the frame of the device.
This device will be powered by an Intel m3-7Y30, a low power Intel SoC (Intel Ark page here) that offers two 7th generation Kaby Lake cores with base/boost clock speeds of 1.0/2.6 GHz with an Intel 9th generation HD 615 graphics chip. Let’s be honest here; this chip is only good enough for gaming due to this device’s low resolution.Â
When compared to this device’s predecessor the GPD WIN, the WIN 2 offers a 2.2x boost in graphics performance and a larger performance boost in single-threaded workloads. The system has also been upgraded to use a replaceable M.2 SSD instead of integrated eMMC memory, allowing game loading to be up to 4x faster on the new WIN 2.Â
This device also offers support for external storage though MicroSD and USB flash devices. The M.2 support on this handheld gaming device is restricted, only providing support for M.2 2042 cards, which means that this system will not support M.2 SSDs that are longer than 42mm.  Â

Alongside the device’s ultra-compact keyboard that WIN 2 supports standard Gamepad controls, offering two joysticks, a thumbpad, standard XYAB buttons and R1/2/3 and L1/2/3 buttons on the rear of the device.Â
GPD states that this handheld supports popular games like GTA V, Heroes of the Storm, Overwatch and League of Legends at playable framerates, offering a large list of games that can be played on the system on their IndieGoGo page. Even so, it is hard to consider this device as something that will withstand the test of time given the high system requirements of some modern titles.Â

Right now this unit has already smashed its IndieGoGo goal of $100,000, reaching over 10x this target. During the handheld’s IndieGoGo campaign the device will be sold for $649, giving users an early access $150 discount on the device. The WIN 2 is expected to ship in May.Â
