Corsair HS50 Gaming Headset Review

Yellow has long been the predominant colour of the Corsair Gaming range, although we note here that the word gaming doesn’t appear below the logo. Still, there is no denying that in a world of largely black boxes the use of yellow really catches the eye.

The HS50 are well packaged in the standard headset plastic shroud. We do like the inclusion of a cubbyhole in the middle that contains the removable microphone and y-splitter cable that converts the four-pole phone/console jack into the standard pair of 3.5mm jacks for your PC.

The headset looks really good with the cross pattern stitching on the headband making a nice change from the sea of smoothness we usually see, whilst the all metal frame makes sure it feels distinctly rugged. There is a cover for the removable microphone connector on one side, whilst an easy to access mic-mute and volume controls adorn the other side. The ear pads are large to accommodate those 50mm drivers, and even with my earrings in I can wear them comfortably, which isn’t always the case.

The side panels have a metal mesh to protect them whilst the hinges continue the rugged build quality theme by being metal too. We’ve rarely had a headset we felt would withstand the rigours of a hardcore LAN session with such ease.
