Is it cooler? Arctic MX-7 Thermal Paste Review

Conclusion

Lower thermals, great pricing

Arctic’s MX-7 paste delivers everything that users could want from a new thermal paste. It provides lower CPU thermals than its predecessor, and its anti-pump-out characteristics make it better suited for long-term use. Given its similar pricing to MX-6, it is hard to see MX-7 as anything less than a straight-up upgrade. There are no real downsides to consider.

While MX-7 is a thick thermal paste, this isn’t a problem. Yes, applying this paste with a spatula is not recommended, but paste application is still straightforward. Just apply it in an X/cross and let your CPU cooler press/spread it.

Given the growing popularity of thermal putties amongst some PC enthusiasts, it makes sense for Arctic to give MX-7 some of the desirable traits of those products. Reducing “pump-out” makes MX-7 more stable long-term. Add on the paste’s improved thermal results, and it’s hard to argue with Arctic’s value proposition. This paste is affordable and superior to its predecessor. It’s a good product. That’s why we are giving MX-7 an OC3D Value for Money Award.
