Up Close:  Interior

The spacious interior of the J60 is made even more roomy by the absence of drive cages down the front.  Instead, as we’ll see later, these reside under the false floor of the case.  Given that the case is 210mm wide and 507mm tall we think it’s a little surprising that you’re limited to just a pair of 120mm fans, and when we say limited, we don’t mean that these are all that’s included, we mean that there aren’t any mounting holes for 140mm units or for that matter a third 120mm fan.

As with a good many quality cases these days, the J60 has a false floor covering the PSU and main cabling area.  Unlike the others however Lian Li have chosen the interrupt the clean lines by adding a 140mm fan.  The fan is set to extract air from the lower deck and bring it into the upper deck area where it is projected straight up into the intake path of the twin front 120s.  In a case that has no extract and little in the way of passive roof ventilation we can’t help but be a bit concerned that this set up may well add turbulence to, and as such potentially degrade the through case airflow generated by the front fans.

At the rear of the case there are seven vented PCI slot covers, above these there’s a ventilated area, with a slot for an 80mm fan as opposed to a 120mm fan, however Lian Li do not include one with the case.  We can’t help but think the absence of a 120mm fan mount option is a little odd, especially as there’s plenty of room for one up there

Up in the roof we can see that there appears to be plenty of room for up to three 120mm fans and as we already know either a 240 or 360mm radiator unit.  But what’s that in the picture below right???  Something in a Lian Li case that’s not perfect.  We’ll have to dig down deeper to find out what it is.
