Lian Li PC-J60WRX Review

Up close:  Exterior

Having read the introduction you’ll know the first impression of the PC-J60WRX was one of pure delight.  The second and third impressions though left us a little deflated and scratching our heads to some extent.  We do still feel the case is a thing of beauty, however there are a few factors spoiling the overall effect for us.  First up, we’re not massive fans of the red.  With the plethora of high end PC kit available in red and black, we can see why it’s been done, we’re just not sure we like it.  If you do like it, that’s great, if you don’t then be assured that there’s an all black version of the case out there ready and waiting for you.  Good old Lian Li! 

       

 

The second thing we’re not sure about is the decision Lian Li have made in mounting the clear acrylic window on the exterior of the case.  We think for a case this sleek, it really needs to be flush mounted inside, but hey, that’s just our opinion.  Perhaps the window might turn out to be like Cindy Crawford’s mole, it’s not an obviously beautiful feature, but somehow she wouldn’t be the same without it.

       

 

The front of the case though is about as sexy as they come.  A single sheet of line brushed Aluminium sheet with an unobtrusive Lian li logo and a front I/O that we think is one of the nicest we’ve ever seen on a case.  So nice is it that we think you’re going to plug a USB drive into either of the two USB3.0s you’d better make sure it’s also black brushed Aluminium.

       

 

The first thing we notice round the back is that although there’s the usual PSU cut out, seven PCI slots, and a large ventilation panel, there isn’t actually a fan mounted there, which is a bit odd, especially when you consider the £179 price tag.  What is perhaps even stranger is that if you want to put one here you’re going to need to buy an 80mm unit as as opposed to the more common 120mm or 140mm fans.

       

 

The case stands on four sturdy chrome finished rubber tipped feet, with a clip on plastic mesh filter covering the large louvered PSU intake area, being the only other area of interest.
