ASUS ROG Maximus Z890 Apex Preview
Power, Storage and Lighting
Power, Storage and Lighting
Beneath this enormous VRM heatsink beats a staggering amount of power. The Maximus Apex has 22+1+2+2 power stages. 110A on the VCCCore, 90A on both VCCGT and VCCSA, with 80A on the VNNAON. AO meaning Always On. This is the power setup on all the big hitting ASUS motherboards, including all three Maximus options.
The M.2 section of the Maximus Apex shows how many drive slots modern motherboards have. It isn’t as many as we saw on the Hero, but you’re still well catered to. The slide on the primary one allows you to install the current tiny drives available.
We’ve seen a whole array of options for lighting on motherboards. We’ve seen a single tiny LED on the ASUS TUF, all the way up to dazzling displays of technicolour. If you like the chance to show off your taste, but don’t want to have your motherboard dominate the lighting, the Maximus Apex has an excellent balance. We particularly like the clear Apex logo. It will definitely be covered by a Graphics Card though. Shame.
