Test Setup

As we said in our introduction the Strix II goes back to our older test setup of a GTX980 and Intel i9 7900X to compare it as well as we can with our original X299 results. We will revisit the Strix II when the new CPUs launch.

Overclocking and VRM Temperatures

The overclocking prowess of the Strix X299-E Gaming II is clearly visible here, pushing our Core i9 7900X to 4.6 GHz @ 1.275v. Most of the original X299 motherboards we tested topped out around 4.4 GHz or 4.5 across all ten cores. Admittedly the original Strix hit just a shade under 4.6 GHz too, but it shows that the extra elements haven’t compromised the pure overclocking potential.
