Overclocking

As you would expect from a ROG product, let alone one named the Apex, the Maximus X Apex makes overclocking our Intel Core i7-8700K a breeze. 5 GHz was dispensed with without any fuss at all and a little bit of fine tuning saw it reach 5.1 GHz. Very impressive.

ASUS Z370 Maximus X Apex Review

For the purposes of stability we’re running the Apex at 5GHz for today’s tests. It’s not that the 5.1GHz overclock above was flaky, merely that some of the benchmarks we run are particularly harsh and thus can make something which would be 24/7 stable in daily use fail for reasons that would be beyond 99% of users requirements. However, we want to ensure all our tests run so that we can give you the most accurate results and thus 5 GHz is the speed and most impressively is this was all with 4000MHz memory in play too!
