ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Gene Preview

In Detail

Here is the ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Gene in all its glory. ASUS seem to be sticking to the Lite-Brite effect for their logos. Naturally whether you’re keen on this or not is a matter of personal taste, but thankfully the Crosshair logo itself is writ bold upon the heatsink. We quite like the Z design on the M.2 and chipset heatsinks. It’s like Zorro has given his blessing.

Starting as always at the top left corner and the Gene has two 8 pin 12V CPU power inputs, both braced with the Armour that helps ensure longevity for your purchase.

The top right hand corner speaks to the difficulty in getting everything neatly arranged on a smaller PCB form factor. The CPU fan is behind the VRM heatsink, the ARGB header is horizontally mounted above the DDR5 slots, then the other CPU fan and dedicated AIO header, with the second part of the AURA lighting RGB header below the 7segment display. We’ll always be fans of onboard power and Retry buttons, especially in the early days of getting your system running smoothly.

Front panel USB Type-C and an additional fan header are tucked in between the 24 pin ATX power connector and the front panel Type-A USB.

The SATA ports are split with two horizontal ones in their usual place, and two vertical ones a little further along. The OC Sense header that connects in to the ROG Voltician is found here above the front panel USB 2.0. Next to those are the front panel headers, a vertical USB 2.0 port and onboard BCLK adjustments for those of you who want fine control over your overclocking efforts.

Around the back are all the goodies that you would expect to find on a motherboard bearing that legendary ROG Eye logo. All types of USB port are included, with ASUS having a pair of USB 4 Type-C connectors if you want to have a storage option with all the bandwidth. To borrow the popular phrase; “Hey ASUS, how much bandwidth do you want to supply?”, “yes”.

The heatsinks are burly boys. You can just peek at the heatpipe that connects them together, as well as the airflow space beneath the back shield.

Despite being a smaller form factor the chunky nature of the heatsinks should give you a clue as to the power available on the Crosshair X670E Gene. 16+2 110A power stages! That’s more than many full ATX motherboards we’ve seen recently. At least we know that powering your new 7000 series Ryzen CPU won’t be a problem.
