PCSpecialist Amethyst Elite Review

Introduction

The PCSpecialist Amethyst Elite embodies everything about the way the Wakefield company does business. If you have even brushed against the business world you’ll know the importance of responsiveness. Adaptability. All those words that boardroom types like to throw around. Such is the size of PCSpecialist as a company, and their willingness to stay ahead of the market, that today’s system arrived before the official launch of the Radeon RX 7900 GRE. No waiting a month or two for them to design a system that takes advantage of the new Radeon card. Here it is, ready to buy, today.

Amethyst is, of course, the birthstone for February. Apt for a system born this month. Such is the capability and flexibility of the underlying hardware, the Amethyst Elite bears a strong resemblance to a few other PCSpecialist systems we’ve reviewed. There is no denying that the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is a spectacular processor. The 3D V-Cache really flexes its muscles in gaming scenarios, whilst having enough performance for an all-rounder. Similarly, the ASUS TUF Gaming B650-Plus WiFi is more than enough motherboard for almost anybody. Yes there are flashier ones, and yes there are some with glitzier feature sets, but the TUF B650 has everything you actually need.

The star of the show has to be the newest addition in the AMD Radeon range, the RX 7900 GRE. Sliding in just below the RX 7900 XT, but a significant extra amount of hardware on the PCB when compared to the RX 7800 XT, it might be the Radeon sweet spot. Combine it with 32GB of Corsair 6000 MHz DDR5 and the fantastic Samsung 990 Pro M.2 drive and all the signs are there that this could be a storming gaming setup for under £1600.
