If the 3D Mark test can be likened to a horse race, then the Maximus VII Gene sneaks home in a photo finish by barely a nose. Showing how close the various Z97 motherboards are, if we’d sorted by either the easier Cloud Gate or more strenuous Fire Strike Extreme tests then it would have slid down the graph. Still, no performance lacking here whatsoever.
