Up Close – In Detail Part One

We love how you look at a motherboard and some things catch your eye. The beefy heatsink over the M.2 slots, the large heatsink on the power phases, all very good. Then you notice little details. The CPU 12V connectors aren’t at the top left and what are the DIMM slots doing at the top..?

Do you ever look at the back of your motherboard and wish it shouted louder about which product it was exactly on the front side? Perhaps you’ve 3D printed yourself a transparent case. Perhaps you have a massive cutout in the back of your regular case. Either way, nobody will be left in any doubt about which EVGA model this is.

As always we’ll be digging into each area of the PCB in more detail in a moment, but we know how some of you love to cast your eye across it in full detail, so for you we’ve provided the following two shots. For everyone else, it’s funny how moving the DIMM slots to the top feels incredibly transgressive given how long they’ve been found on the right of the CPU socket.

That DARK M.2 heatsink is lovely. We’re big fans of the whole aesthetic of the EVGA X570 Dark. Purposeful.

Where you would normally expect to find the CPU 12V connectors instead there is a ProbeIt arrangement allowing you to easily monitor your voltages for those monstrous overclocks. We especially like that this is provided by EVGA in the box, rather than hoping you already own one.

At the top right we find the onboard power buttons as well as the controls for the CMOS and Safebooting options. A very tidy layout partly enabled by the movement of the DIMM slots.

If, like us, you grow weary of attempting to plug the incredibly short cables that PSU manufacturers give you – as if another 2 inches of cable would bankrupt them – into the CPU ATX 12V connectors on motherboards at the top of ever larger cases, you’ll appreciate EVGA moving the 12V connectors next to the ATX24. All your power in one place. Lovely.

Moving further down we find the familiar USB Type-A and Type-C front panel headers, as well as the opportunity to take a closer look at that gorgeous chipset heatsink.
