Gigabyte X870 Aorus Elite Review

Introduction

Any time a manufacturer has a success it must be tempting to put it everywhere, or monetise it every way possible. Initially Youtube paid enough that even mild successes could pay the bills. Now they’re so greedy you need Patreon or Merch. Etsy was once just for creative types to hawk their efforts, now it’s Chinese imports. Google became the biggest search engine by giving you usable results that were easily refined with Boolean searches. These days between the ads and the SEO nonsense you’re twenty pages deep before you’ve made it through the sponsored, AI generated results.

What’s that to do with the Gigabyte X870 Aorus Elite WiFi7?

Well we think Gigabyte have been onto a winner with all their Aorus branded models. Its introduction utterly transformed their fortunes. They’ve got, like all the big manufacturers, a broad product range. However, it’s the Aorus, and specifically the Aorus motherboards, that grab all the attention. They need to keep that exclusivity. If you’ve been keeping up with all our X870 motherboard launches today then the specifications below might be a surprise.

We can see a 2.5Gb LAN instead of a 5G. There are as many USB 2.0 ports as there are any others. Luckily all the rest is up to par, but with no lighting on the heatsinks and the aforementioned corner cutting, Gigabyte need to be careful. It’s not that much above their non-Aorus X870 Gaming X motherboard. Any less and it’s straying dangerously close to watering-down the brand that has given them so much success.

Gigabyte are, however, still giving us 3 Gen 5 M.2 slots and their excellent new WiFi antenna plug system that makes installing it a breeze. We’ll be 6 feet under before you’ll prize their EZ-Latch system from our cold dead fingers. Let’s go.
