Overclocking

We hope that you’re reading this review sitting down. When we first got our hands on the i7-8700K we used the ASUS X370-A Prime and managed to squeeze 5 GHz from it. The Maximus Hero followed this up, and the MSI Godlike took the crown with 5.25 GHz.

The Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming 7 took us to 5.1 GHz for a screenshot but we tested as you can see below at 5GHz.

Now we’re not suggesting that’s the kind of overclock stable enough to run our bench suite, but it’s a damn good indicator of the type of overclocking you can expect to find. This is on a release BIOS of course, so as it matures heaven only knows what people with more time to dedicate to a single overclock can achieve. As for us, this is plenty good enough to hint at what lies beneath, although the overclock we’re running for our tests today – which you can see below – is hardly something to sniff at.
