MSI B350 Tomahawk Arctic & Mortar MATX Review

Conclusion

MSI are clearly onto a winner with their Ryzen boards, the BIOS seem to be well in front of the competition with both CPU voltage control and memory support. We loved that the original Tomahawk kept up with the much more expensive X370 boards at a fraction of the price and now with the Arctics you get all of those plus points and the option of being able to build a white themed build without any compromises from both a performance and price point aspect. 

The MATX Mortar was a mosfet heatsink short compared to the full ATX but as we discussed previously MSI told us they are feeding the SOC part of the CPU which is basically just for memory. We did keep a close eye on that area whilst running our tests and if anything ran more on the MATX. We dont think there will be any issues in a case with a normal amount of airflow but if it is something that you think will play on your mind you could add some simple heatsinks to the top of them or buy a ‘face down’ CPU cooler to make sure there is plenty of airflow.

All in all its no secret Im a fan of white products but when they come with both the performance and price point of their normal black PCB counterparts whats not to like. Yopu get to chose the board that best suits the theme of your systems and not have to worry about how its going to perform or if it will empty your wallet that little bit more.

In the original Tomahawk review we gave it the OC3D Gamers Choice and VFM award. We think with the introduction of the white without compromises we could even add innovation or extreme aesthetics to that line up. We will keep it sensible though and award both boards the GC and VFM again though, we couldn’t have them arguing over who is best now could we!
