MSI MEG Z790 Ace Max Review

Introduction

At the top of the MSI range of motherboards are their MEG models. These normally are more expensive than their MAG range, but provide more high-end features for those who want the best. Today we’re reviewing the MSI Z790 MEG Ace Max. This fits just below their Godlike model and is very much a premium experience with a whole host of technologies.

If you’ve been following our Z790 and Intel 14th Gen coverage you’ll know that there are many new elements. Unquestionably the faster memory support is one that will grab some headlines. The MEG Ace Max, for example, supports 7800 MHz DDR5. Dizzying speeds when we hadn’t long passed the 5000 MHz mark. WiFi 7 will please all those of you who like wireless connectivity. A 320Mhz channel allows a maximum transfer rate of 5.8 Gbps. That’s hugely fast, more than twice as quick as WiFi 6E. With the addition of Gen5 across the board, PCI Express and M.2, as well as Thunderbolt 4 ports, bandwidth won’t be an issue.

Those are the basics though. The MSI Z790 MEG Ace Max offers much more than that, especially in the power department. Suffice to say if you want one of the most fully featured Z790 offerings, it should be on your shortlist. Let’s take a closer look.
